This newsletter is dedicated to the loving memory of my father, Carl Mackey.
It has been less than three months since his transition, and I’m still adjusting to this loss. It is and will continue to be a journey for me, my family, and the whole Black Men Smile® team, but we are comforted by the kind words, the affirmation, and the patience of each of you. We are also deeply comforted by the powerful legacy that my dad left behind. His is a legacy of deep, abiding faith. He was driven to action, not to platitudes. He loved people exactly where they were. The result was a host of human beings who felt empowered in their pursuit of where they wanted to be. We hope to live up to this challenge and to live into this legacy. We thank you for joining us on this journey and for creating a community where, like my dad, we can come to understand more fully the transformative power of a smile.

Honoring the creativity, ingenuity, and brilliance of Black male creatives, the biannual A Marvelous Black Boy Art Show took place on Sept. 5, 2021, in Atlanta, GA.
Building upon the success of previous year’s shows, the event featured artwork from 50 Black male artists, an interactive art installation (pictured below), a live band, DJ, and live performances.
